It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Denise Margaret Corkill from Ballure Cottages in Ramsey (formerly of Ballasaig Farm, Maughold), a beloved mother, friend, and woman of immense strength and grace. Born on May 10, 1947, Denise passed away at Nobles Hospital on Thursday October 16, 2025, leaving a legacy of love, wisdom, and enduring spirit. Denise was predeceased by her loving husband, Thomas Edward Corkill. She is survived by her children Paul, Petra , Claire, Ross and Jamie, and their partners. Each of her children carries forward the gift of her radiant spirit, her compassion, and the wisdom she imparted to them throughout her life. She also leaves behind her many grandchildren whom she loved very much, Christopher, Brandon, Jordan, Nikita, Keleigh, Connor, Matthew, Caitlin, Sophie, Aedan, Ruby, Aaron, Chloe, Olivia, Hayden, Ethan, Harriott and Amelia. Denise was an extraordinary woman who touched the lives of many with her resilience and warm presence. Her memories will forever be etched in the hearts of her loved ones and everyone who knew her, from her time on the farm, Northern Athletics Club, Stead&Simpsons and the Ramsey Co-op. Udo Karl Meier, 83, of Lezayre Estate Ramsey, passed away on 7th December 2024 after a short illness. Karl was born on the 8th July, 1941, in a small village called Kürzell, in the Black Forest of Southern Germany. However, he moved to England as a child and grew up in Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire. After going to catering college in his teens, he moved to London where he initially worked in the Dorchester hotel. Then, he worked in various other restaurants and hotels around London, and also opened his own businesses. In 1978, he moved to Ramsey, Isle of Man with his wife and children, where he founded the very popular Harbour Bistro, and many other restaurants over the years. Karl was married twice, first to Susie Wright and then Linda Caufield. He had two children with each family.
Karl is survived by his two sisters, Erika and Christa, and four children, Paul, Karl, Lee and Christina. He is also leaves a partner of 13 years, Susan Park. The funeral service will take place at Maughold Church on January 8th, 2025, at 12:45pm, followed by a wake at The Swan in Ramsey at 2:25pm.
